Silver Springs Little League BBQ Success

Last weekend we did the chicken BBQ for the Silver Springs Cal-Ripkin League's fundraiser and tournament. Our church sponsored the tournament and Terry did the food with help from church members and Joe, the Silver Springs league coordinator. It went very well and we had lots of positive comments on the food. Amazingly we sold over 400 dinners! There were many positive comments about the tournament also. Four local A-teams competed: Silver Springs, Bliss, Nunda and Pike (I think I got those right - I didn't actually get to watch, but I know Nunda won). There was also a pitching, throwing and homerun competition. Hopefully we'll be doing it all again next year - so if you didn't come this year be sure to make it then =)

A special thanks to everyone who helped and bought food! It raised a good chunk of change for the league.

There's Nothing Daily Here

Terry (jokingly) commented last night that I'm slacking on the website and blog updates. Sorry.

There really has been a lot going on at the deli - I just haven't taken the time to get online and share. Once I start editing the webpage - I can be on there for an hour or more - I love doing it and it's addicting. I could be an internet addict, so I have to practice self control =) flee from tempation and just stay away =)

A funny story about internet addiction ~ Seth (our 8 yr. old son) and I were watching the news one night and a story came on about how in China they treat internet addiction, which they say is prevalent among youth, with electric shock therapy (not the funny part). A few days later while he was on the computer playing games for a long time he suddenly asked in a little voice, with a concerned look in his eyes, "Am I going to get a shock?" I had to explain they weren't shocked through their computers while online, but it was some strange kind of behavioral therapy. Anyways, maybe you don't find that as humorous as I did. (Just because no one laughs, doesn't mean it's not funny, right Becky?)

Focus - - I plan to get some photos up on here soon of all the renovations going on. Our new eating bar is in with the new bar stools and our flooring is almost complete. Our new 8 O'clock Coffee Cafe is up and running too. It looks really good down there. Now we have to start this spring with the exterior repairs.........

We're on our 3rd week of Panini Contest winners. They are going over fabulously! Our first week was Greek Chicken submitted by Sara Merrill of Silver Springs. Week 2 was
Memphis Pork submitted by Cathy Shearing of Silver Springs. More than one person even commented that it was their all-time Panini favorite! This week is Mexican Mix submitted by Katlyn Chenaille who hasn't been in to get her free one yet. Everyone who has tried it - loves it. I personally, haven't gotten to try the Mexican Mix =( because everytime I go down there to get it, they're almost sold out and Terry makes me get a different one. I'm going to send someone in the store with five bucks to buy me one.

I tried to convince Terry to leave the Memphis Pork on our "regular" selection because so many people have already asked when it will be back. But I guess that would ruin the "specialness" of it all, so he won't do it, not yet anyways. But, after the Panini Contest is over we're going to run all the winning entries together for awhile.

I just remembered! Our drawing for the 2 free dinners is coming up for everyone who participated in the Panini contest! I better check the date... i'll be back.

Panini Contest Off to a Good Start

Thanks to everyone who has participated in our Panini contest! A few of our interesting (and yummy sounding) entries include: Super Fluff, Pepper Jack Ham, Memphis Pork and Greek Chicken. Originally we said we would start our "Panini of the Week" in May but I'm pushing to start right away. There are so many I want to try - my vote to start the specials with are Memphis Pork and Greek Chicken. We'll put an ad in the Shopper when we start - keep an eye out.

We, or I should say Terry, has a busy weekend ahead. Fridays are always busy with the Fish Fry; and he also has a drop off catering order Friday evening for a funeral and a large box-lunch order for a church conference on Saturday. See, there are so many events you need catering for.... I'll be posting pictures so if you're interested in meals like this for your event, check back in a couple of days.

Terry is getting the meatloaf ready for tonight's Carving Board Special. Everyone who has tried it has given it rave reviews. I have to say, it is good.... I love these specials... no more cooking for me! Living above the store has some advantages. No grocery shopping and no cooking. I like it, I like it a lot. After being married for 10 years - you would think Terry has made about everything for us to try - but no, actually before moving in here he almost never cooked for us because he was usually working during dinner. Terry's meatloaf is one of my favorites now. I wonder how it would be battered and deep-fried? (just kidding =)

Just For You Princess

At Decisions we have Team Gordon (the winners) and Team Stewart.

Don't get your hopes up if you're in the later, Gordon's still in the race - in 1997 while at Daytona we witnessed him win - coming back from a lap down.

Picture from
http://metromix.chicagotribune.com/search/orl-spt-car-daytona500winners,1,726977.photogallery?index=17 (but don't bother looking - there aren't any pictures of Stewart in winners' circle.)
(added later): Ok - I guess I should clarify in case anyone gets the wrong idea - but I think Becky's the only one who actually reads my blog so just in case she got the wrong idea.... The Princess in the title is Becky - our lovely employee (and friend) who we fondly refer to as the Panini Princess because she makes them everyday. Yes, I have to be nice now because she's mad at me.... She's not on our Team.
